The fragrance
What Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait de Parfum actually smells like
The Extrait is not simply a stronger Baccarat Rouge 540 — it is a reinterpretation. Bitter almond replaces some of the airiness, the amber is heavier and slightly boozy, and the burnt-sugar note is dialled back in favour of resin and musk. Where the EDP floats, this one sits.
It wears closer to skin than the EDP but lasts even longer, easily twelve hours, and it is much better suited to cold weather and evenings. Anyone who finds the EDP too sweet or too shrill should try this before writing the fragrance off.
At extrait pricing this is one of the most expensive things we pour, which makes 2 ml an entirely reasonable place to start.

Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait de Parfum FAQ
The Extrait is denser and darker, with bitter almond and a heavier amber-musk base. It has less of the airy cotton-candy sweetness and it projects less while lasting longer. Many people who dislike the EDP prefer the Extrait.
The EDP, on price per millilitre. The Extrait is the connoisseur's pick and the one to try after you know you like the DNA.
One spray is fine in cold weather. It is fundamentally an evening and winter fragrance.
