Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait de Parfum
Saffron · Bitter Almond · Egyptian Jasmine · Cedar
Batch B2859 · DP-X-XERJOFFNAX
Xerjoff · Eau de Parfum · 2015
Honey, tobacco and vanilla. Widely called the best tobacco fragrance made.
The fragrance
Naxos is what happens when a house with no interest in restraint decides to make a honey tobacco. The opening is bright citrus and lavender, but within ten minutes a thick, golden honey note arrives with cinnamon beside it, and then the tobacco and Madagascar vanilla base settles in for the rest of the day. It is rich, sweet, faintly boozy and extremely smooth.
It performs like a niche fragrance should — ten hours plus with warm, close projection after the first two. Cold weather is its element and it is a superb evening fragrance. Applied lightly it also works surprisingly well in an office.
Naxos is one of the most respected fragrances in the enthusiast community and one of the most expensive in this catalogue. Very few people should buy it without wearing it for a full day first.

Questions about this fragrance
The honey note is exceptionally well done — golden and smooth rather than sticky or urinous, which is the usual failure mode for honey in perfumery — and it sits on a tobacco and vanilla base of unusually high quality. It is smooth in a way clones consistently fail to reproduce.
It is definitely sweet. The tobacco and lavender keep it from being a dessert, but if you dislike honey or vanilla this is not the fragrance for you.
Naxos is honeyed, brighter on top and smoother overall. Tobacco Vanille is drier, more dried-fruit and pipe-tobacco. Naxos is generally considered the more refined of the two.
