Parfums de Marly Herod Decant
Vanilla, cinnamon and tobacco. A warmer, spicier cousin to Tobacco Vanille.
The fragrance
What Parfums de Marly Herod actually smells like
Herod is Parfums de Marly's tobacco fragrance and it takes a spicier route than the obvious comparison. Cinnamon and pepper open it sharply, tobacco leaf and incense form the heart, and a vanilla-cedar-vetiver base gives it a sweet, dry finish. It is less dessert-like than Tobacco Vanille and more peppery.
Nine to ten hours of wear with strong early projection. This is a firmly cold-weather fragrance and one of the better winter masculines in the niche bracket, particularly for anyone who finds Tobacco Vanille too sweet.
The Tobacco Vanille comparison comes up in almost every conversation about Herod, which is exactly why owning small decants of both is more useful than owning a bottle of either.

They share a sweet tobacco-vanilla core but Herod is drier, spicier and more peppery, with a noticeable cinnamon opening and a woodier base. Tobacco Vanille is richer and more dried-fruit heavy. Many people prefer Herod for daily wear.
At one spray it is fine in most offices in winter. At three it is not. The vanilla is prominent.
Late autumn through winter. In heat the cinnamon and vanilla turn cloying quickly.
